For airless spray on fences:

Approximately ½ gallon per panel over primed or repaints or 1 gallon per panel over new planking. (A panel is the section of fence between every other post – 16 feet). Brush or roller on fences: Apply at approximately ½ gallon per panel depending on surface texture and porosity.

WOOD Wood should be sanded to expose a fresh surface. Old gray wood should be sanded to good wood to remove loose wood fibers and to expose a fresh surface. Repair/Caulk all cracks and fill all small holes with putty or wood filler and sand smooth. Remove dust. Spot prime all bare spots with the appropriate primer.

MASONRY, CONCRETE, CMU
Unpainted concrete block should be filled with block filler to uniform the surface. All new masonry surfaces require at least 30 days to cure and should not be painted if the pH of the masonry surface is above 10.0. Remove all release and curing agents. New tilt-up concrete panels must be cleaned and free of bond breakers, form-release agents, and/or curing compounds. Removal of these compounds may require hot water blasting or brush blasting with sand.

COMPOSITION AND HARDBOARD
These substrates usually contain a wax that can bleed out and therefore an oil based primer must be used before applying this topcoat. VINYL SIDING Wash the siding by scrubbing with warm, soapy water to remove dirt and grime and any chalking present. Rinse thoroughly.

IRON / STEEL Minimum: Hand Tool Cleaning per SSPC-SP2. Rusted Steel: Commercial Blast per SSPC-SP6. Remove all oil and grease from surface by Solvent Cleaning per SSPC-SP1. Prime with an appropriate primer. Do not use hydrocarbon solvents for cleaning as they will leave behind an oily residue.

ALUMINUM / GALVANIZED Minimum: Solvent Cleaning per SSPC-SP1. Rusted Metal: Hand Tool Cleaning per SSPC-SP2. Do not use hydrocarbon solvents for cleaning as they will leave behind an oily residue.

CAULKING After priming, caulk all gaps between trim, moldings, ceilings and walls with a quality latex caulk.

MILDEW Wash mildewed surfaces with a solution of 1 part household bleach to 3 parts water. Scrub mildewed surface if necessary, and rinse thoroughly. Follow bleach manufacturer’s directions for use and wear appropriate protective equipment including eye wear, gloves, and protective clothing. Wash any contacted skin immediately and thoroughly with copious amounts of water. Never add ammonia or detergents to a bleach/water solution. If in doubt about the soundness of the surface to be painted or if you have any questions about surface preparation check the surface preparation guide or consult your Farrell-Calhoun representative.

APPLICATION PRECAUTIONS Do not apply over heavy built-up layers of weathered asphalt because peeling may eventually occur. If, however, old asphalt was weathered down to bare wood, Fence-Guard 3 may be successfully applied to sound prepared surfaces. For best performance and application properties, it is recommended to apply product to surfaces that are not extremely hot, above 90°F or in direct sunlight. Do not paint late in the day when dew or condensation is likely to form or when rain is threatening. Do not apply at lower temperatures, below 45°F, if snow, frost or plunging temperatures may occur within hours of painting. For maximum protection and long term durability, apply two coats of Fence-Guard 3 Finish over properly prepared surface.

EQUIPMENT Use a conventional or airless spray with a 0.017 – 0.019 tip @ 2000 psi. Quality synthetic brush or 3/8” to 3/4” nap lambskin roller cover THINNING Thinning is not necessary. If needed, thin sparingly with water up to ½ pint per gallon. Paint additives are not recommended. Do not add any paint thinners or solvents. CLEAN-UP Warm, soapy water
